Do you care about the planet you live on, but feel that being environmentally conscious is just too expensive? Well, there are a few small things that you can do to help care for our planet that won’t break the bank, and will probably cost you less in the long run.
If you want to start living a more earth-friendly life, but aren’t sure how to go about it, here are a few simple ideas and suggestions you can start implementing TODAY!
Homemade, Earth-Friendly Cleaning Product
Vinegar is a great alterative to using chemical-heavy floor polishes and window cleaners. It’s also cheap and suitable for almost all floor types. Simply mix a quarter cup of vinegar per litre of water, and hey presto, you have a super-cheap, bio-friendly cleaning agent!
Diatomaceous Earth is a real beaut – it can be used for just about anything. Try sprinkling it in the garden or in entry-ways to your house as a natural and pet-friendly pest-repellent.
What did I say about this stuff?! It’s amazing! Diatomaceous Earth is also a fantastic, organic de-worming agent. Mix about a teaspoon into your pets’ food.

Totally Terrific Toothpaste Alternative
Mix turmeric, diatomaceous earth and coconut oil for a highly effective, all-natural teeth-cleansing miracle paste!
Easy-Peasy DIY Deodorant
This is so simple, and smells amazing: mix the essential oil of your choice (I like Lavender oil) into your coconut oil and use instead of harsh, alcohol-based anti-perspirants.
Veggie Patch Perfection
Grow your own veggies! (Veggies grown from your own soil tend to be packed with a whole lot more goodness.) Even if you don’t have a lot of space, you can still do a few of your own herbs in a box. This can be a double-whammy if you recycle your bio-degradable food by using it as compost. Note: where possible, buy sprouts to plant rather than seeds, as they tend to grow far more effectively.
Mother Earth’s Most Goodly Moisturiser
You probably guessed it: coconut oil! Yes, this miracle mootie can be used for almost anything. Use it on your legs when shaving, for aftershave, or an all-over moisturiser. Coconut oil is a natural antibacterial and works wonders for dry, itchy and irritated skin. Mix it with my other favourite ingredient Diatomaceous Earth and an egg for an awesome face-mask.
